Hit-and-run leads to possible wrongful death claim

One Texas family is currently experiencing the worst scenario imaginable as they struggle to accept the loss of a 14-year-old boy. The child was riding his bicycle when he was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident. Police are working to recover the vehicle involved in the incident, and to determine the identity of the driver responsible for this tragic loss of life. There will likely be criminal charges filed in the matter, and a wrongful death claim is also a possibility.

The accident took place on a recent Thursday evening as the young boy was riding his bike to the store on an errand for his mother. As he attempted to cross an intersection, he was struck by a vehicle making a turn. As a result, he sustained catastrophic injuries, including an array of broken bones.

Police are reviewing video footage from the area, but as of yet have very little to go on. They are asking the public for help in bringing the driver to justice. Based upon analysis of tire tracks left on the child’s clothing, police believe that the vehicle involved is either a truck or SUV.

These are dark days for the parents and sister of the Texas teen who lost his life in this accident. They have received the support and condolences of the Fort Worth community, and widespread media coverage of the case may help police in identifying the vehicle and driver involved. If that occurs, criminal charges will likely follow, and the family has the right to proceed with a wrongful death claim against the responsible party.
