Acknowledging the dangers of trucks on roads

We see them every day on Texas roads and highways. A school bus passing by, a dump truck loaded with stones, a garbage truck, an 18-wheeler trailer. Yet, how often do we stop to think about just how much larger and heavier these motor vehicles are than the little passenger cars that most of us zip around in?

Due to their size and weight, it is far more difficult for a truck driver to navigate the roads. It takes a truck driver longer to accelerate and stop, and it is more difficult for a truck to maneuver, swerve or change lanes to avoid an accident. In addition, trucks are vulnerable to many other hazards, such as crosswinds or jackknifing.

As one can see, it is in everyone’s best interests to be mindful of the potential of risks on the roads. But, even if every precaution is taken, there are still instances where truck accidents occur, and they often lead to serious or catastrophic injuries to a victim. Again, due to their size and weight, when a passenger car is involved in a truck accident, things are often far worse for the passenger car and its occupants. Those involved in a truck accident may be entitled to compensation for their injuries.
