Fatal car accident kills wife of former Texas Commissioner

A two-vehicle crash occurred on the night of Wednesday, April 5 just before 11 p.m. near Los Fresnos. The fatal car accident claimed the life of the wife of former Texas Health and Human Services Commissioner Chris Traylor. The 53-year-old woman, Laura Lee Traylor, was from Austin.

Investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but state troopers have performed a preliminary investigation. Troopers believe that a Jeep was traveling west when it veered across the center line of State Highway 100 into the opposite lane for reasons that are unknown at this time. The Jeep struck Traylor's vehicle head-on.

The driver of the Jeep was transported by emergency workers to a local hospital for treatment of injuries deemed non-life-threatening, according to reports. Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The Texas State Legislature honored the woman and her family the following day.

The fatal car accident remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made. If, however, the investigation turns up apparent negligence or fault on the part of the Jeep's driver, the deceased woman's husband may choose to speak with a Texas personal injury attorney in regards to pursing a wrongful death suit. Whether or not alcohol or drugs show up as contributing factors in the crash, grounds for a civil suit may still exist. A lawyer with experience in a variety of accident cases could offer valuable legal advice and representation to anyone who finds him or herself in a similar tragic situation, mourning the loss of a loved one.
