An incident of drunk driving has claimed yet another life in a tragic accident that could potentially have been avoided. According to police reports, a man was killed in a fatal accident in Texas early on the morning of Feb. 25. The crash appears to have been caused by a drunk driver, and in addition to the fatality, the incident left another individual seriously injured.
Police report that an intoxicated man was operating his vehicle, an SUV, while under the influence of alcohol at around 3:30 that Saturday morning. Officers on the scene say that the SUV was speeding when it collided with a car. The man driving the car was killed instantly.
After flipping, the SUV smashed into a nearby traffic light pole. Both the male SUV driver and the female passenger of the car he crashed into were taken to the hospital. She remains in serious condition, while the SUV driver's condition was reported as serious but stable.
The driver accused of operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter. In addition to the criminal charges, he may also be subject to a wrongful death suit on behalf of the driver whose death resulted from the fatal accident, should the man's family choose to exercise their legal right to consult an attorney and move forward with a suit. Furthermore, the injured female passenger has every right to seek legal counsel on her grounds for a personal injury suit against the man. A lawyer with experience in similar cases involving car accidents in Texas would be able to offer sound legal advice or representation, and any monetary damages awarded in this or similar suits can be used toward, among other expenses, medical bills or, in the case of wrongful death, funeral expenses.
