Education
Ted received his J.D. from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1975. In 1972, he graduated from East Texas University with a B.S. in Political Science.
Admissions and professional memberships
Ted was admitted to practice in Texas and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas in 1976. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas in 1984 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1986. In 1993, he was admitted to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas.

Ted was treasurer for the Mesquite Bar Association in 1977, secretary in 1978, vice president in 1979, and president in 1980. He is past president of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, a past director of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Community involvement
Ted's involvement in local and state communities is longstanding. A former police officer and past member of the Texas House of Representatives and Senate, he received more than 20 awards and honors for his accomplishments. He spent 15 years in the legislature, serving four years in the Texas House of Representatives and 11 years in the Texas Senate respectively. He has dedicated his life to helping improve the quality of life for others.
In addition to his work as a lawyer, Ted is a spouse, father, and outdoorsman.
